Modeling Preferences Online

چکیده
The search for an online product that matches e-shoppers’ needs and preferences can be frustrating and time-consuming. Browsing large lists arranged in tree-like structures demands focused attention from eshoppers. Keyword search often results in either too many useless items (low precision) or few or none useful ones (low recall). This can cause potential buyers to seek another seller or choose to go in person to a store. This paper introduces the SPOT (Stated Preference Ontology Targeted) methodology to model eshoppers’ decision-making processes and use them to refine a search and show products and services that meet their preferences. SPOT combines probabilistic theory on discrete choices, the theory of stated preferences, and knowledge modeling (i.e. ontologies). The probabilistic theory on discrete choices coupled with e-shoppers’ stated preferences data allow us to unveil parameters e-shoppers would employ to reach a decision of choice related to a given product or service. Those parameters are used to rebuild the decision process and evaluate alternatives to select candidate products that are more likely to match e-shoppers’ choices. We use a synthetic example to demonstrate how our approach distinguishes from currently used methods for e-commerce.

An Optimized Online Secondary Path Modeling Method for Single-Channel Feedback ANC Systems
This paper proposes a new method for online secondary path modeling in feedback active noise control (ANC) systems. In practical cases, the secondary path is usually time-varying. For these cases, online modeling of secondary path is required to ensure convergence of the system. In literature the secondary path estimation is usually performed offline, prior to online modeling, where in the prop...
متن کاملAudience Preference and Editorial Judgment: A Study of Time-Lagged Influence in Online News
The rise of sophisticated tools for tracking audiences online has begun to change the way media producers think about media audiences. This study examines this phenomenon in journalism. Research suggests that journalists, after long resisting or ignoring audience preferences, are becoming increasingly aware of user desires, manifest via metrics. However, research also finds a gap in the news pr...

We present in this paper our approach for modeling inter-topic preferences of Twitter users: for example, those who agree with the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) also agree with free trade. This kind of knowledge is useful not only for stance detection across multiple topics but also for various real-world applications including public opinion surveys, electoral predictions, electoral campaign...
متن کاملPresenting a Model for Female Customers Behavioral Preferences in selecting Banks based on Grounded Theory Method and Structural Equation Modeling (Case Study: Iran’s Banking Industry)
The customers ’preference is derived from reflection on a product or special commercial brand, and factors such as positive appraisal of a brand performance and holding advantages and being unique, establishes the preference. This study aimed to develop a model of female customers' preferences in selecting banks and to train senior managers and banking staff. It had an applied objective, adopte...
متن کاملA Solution to the Problem of Extrapolation in Car Following Modeling Using an online fuzzy Neural Network
Car following process is time-varying in essence, due to the involvement of human actions. This paper develops an adaptive technique for car following modeling in a traffic flow. The proposed technique includes an online fuzzy neural network (OFNN) which is able to adapt its rule-consequent parameters to the time-varying processes. The proposed OFNN is first trained by an growing binary tree le...
